About the role:

As VP of Engineering, you will be responsible for the strategy, organisation and execution of Engineering at bsport.

As a member of bsport’s Executive Committee (EXCOM), you will have a direct impact on the company’s strategy and growth. In close partnership with the CTO and CPO, you will shape the Engineering organisation and technology capabilities required to execute our product strategy and scale the business.

This is a leadership role with a strong focus on building the organisation for the next stage of growth: strengthening our engineering foundations, increasing delivery velocity, raising technical standards, developing our leaders and ensuring that our architecture can support a significantly larger business.

You will lead an international Engineering organisation across our Barcelona and Paris offices, with the opportunity to shape how we hire, structure and operate the team as we continue to grow.

🎯 What you will do

Engineering Strategy & Organisation

Define and execute the Engineering strategy in partnership with the CTO and Product leadership.
Shape the Engineering organisation, team structure, leadership layer and ways of working as bsport scales.
Build and develop a strong organisation of senior technical leaders.

Technology & Technical Excellence

Ensure our architecture, infrastructure and engineering practices can scale with the business.
Drive improvements across reliability, security, observability, CI/CD and technical quality.
Balance technical investment and technical debt with business and product priorities.

Execution & Delivery

Improve engineering velocity, quality and delivery predictability without adding unnecessary process.
Partner closely with Product to prioritise engineering capacity across product development, platform and technical foundations.
Use data and engineering metrics to identify bottlenecks and continuously improve execution.

People & Talent

Build, hire and retain a high-performing Engineering organisation.
Develop engineering leaders and create a culture of ownership, autonomy, accountability and continuous improvement.

Leadership & Business Impact

Act as a strategic partner to the CTO, Product, Data and executive leadership teams.
Connect technology decisions and engineering investments to customer and business outcomes.
Help prepare Engineering for bsport's next stage of growth, including the increasing role of data, automation and AI in our product.

🌟What we're looking for

Significant experience leading large and growing Engineering organisations, ideally in a SaaS, marketplace or other product-led technology company.
Experience operating at VP Engineering, Head of Engineering or equivalent senior leadership level, with responsibility for multiple teams and Engineering Managers.
A strong technical foundation in software engineering, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure and modern software development practices. You don't need to be the most technical person in the room, but you need enough technical depth to challenge assumptions and make sound organisational and architectural decisions.
Proven experience scaling Engineering organisations through periods of significant company growth and organisational change.
A strong track record of hiring, developing and retaining high-performing engineering leaders and teams.
Experience improving engineering execution, delivery predictability and developer productivity without relying on excessive process.
Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, security and reliability in a production environment at scale.
Strong product mindset and the ability to connect technical investment with customer and business outcomes.
Experience working closely with Product, Data and executive leadership in a cross-functional environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to operate effectively from technical discussions to executive-level strategy.
Experience in a scale-up environment, where processes, structures and priorities evolve quickly.
